About/FAQ

What is Comic Cocoon?
Comic Cocoon is a monthly discussion group for comic artists that takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is specifically for professionals and freelancers to socialise with each other and discuss different aspects of drawing comics.

Where and when do meetings take place?
Meetings take place on the last Saturday of every month at Kafe Kweer, from 11am to 1pm. Meetings were previously held at Lighthouse Bookshop.

Are meetings free to attend?
Yes, but we encourage you to buy a coffee and snack from Kafe Kweer as a thank you for hosting us!

Can/will the meetings be streamed online?
No, as the point of Comic Cocoon is to let artists meet and chat in person and develop connections offline.

What happens in a meetup?
Each meetup, we have a set of discussion questions that each artist takes turn answering. These questions are meant to guide conversation and the moderators will bring the meeting back to the topic if we go too far off track, but they are also meant as a jumping off point for discussion.

Who runs Comic Cocoon?
Right now meetings are run by Ell and Eve. Previously meetings were run by Alex and Eve.

"I'm not a comic artist, but I write/edit/publish comics. Am I right for this group?"
The questions will focus on people's art process and the freelance artist lifestyle. As such, this group is unfortunately not right for you. Sorry!

"I've never drawn a comic before but I'm interested in learning how. Am I right for this group?"
The Cocoon is not a workshop. If you are just starting out in comics, you are welcome to come along but we ask that you take a backseat in the discussion.

"I don't draw or write comics, but I read comics. Am I right for this group?"
The Cocoon is a group for freelance and professional comic artists. If you are not involved in the comics industry and are simply a fan of reading comics, this group is unfortunately not right for you.

Who designed the Comic Cocoon logo?
It was originally designed by Eve and Alex in 2019, and spruced up by Spire in 2023!
